As part of Garden Re-Leaf Day 2013, teams from Castle Gardens, Poundbury Gardens and Brimsmore Gardens will be pushing brightly coloured wheelbarrows between the three garden centres. From Yeovil to Dorchester to Sherborne - each team will throw their energies into the 'The Big Push' to raise money for Greenfingers charity.
Garden Re-Leaf day (the second annual event) takes place on March 8th, and garden centres up and down the country are holding events to raise money for Greenfingers. In the run up to the national event, garden centre shoppers and visitors to The Garden Group restaurants will be able to donate loose change into a brightly coloured wheelbarrow and these donations will be added to the overall funds raised during The Big Push.
Steve Fry organiser of The Big Push comments: "Greenfingers is a wonderful charity and we are all keen to support the work this charity does to help families and children who are in need of support. Many of us have families and to push a wheelbarrow and raise money seems such a small thing to do - but we want it to have a big result. We know our customers are always supportive of our charity events and we are hoping to drop in to several local gardening clubs along the way - maybe for a quick drink to sustain us - but also to collect as many coins as we can!"
Although Garden Re-Leaf day is on 8th March, the teams will be pushing their wheelbarrows from West Dorset and into South Somerset on 6th and 7th March.
"Then on 8th of March we will be drawing the name of a participating gardening club from a hat and that club will receive the empty wheelbarrow that raised most money - to keep, to auction off, to give away or to use for further fundraising" said Steve.
There are opportunities for garden clubs to get involved, either by hosting refreshment points, walking part of the route or even bringing their own wheelbarrow along. To get involved please contact Steve Fry at Castle Gardens on: email@example.com or telephone 01935 814633.
