Looking for a hoot this February half term? Owl Day comes to The Gardens Group

Added on 08 January 2014

From barn and tawny to long-eared and little, the UK's leading nature conservation charity The RSPB together with Sharandys Birds of Prey, will be taking a parliament of owls to each of The Gardens Group garden centres for Owl Day during the February half term.

This free event will take place in Yeovil, Poundbury in Dorchester and Sherborne on Wednesday 19, Thursday 20 and Friday 21 February 2014 from 10am - 4pm. As well as meeting these round-faced birds of prey, gardeners of all ages will be able to join in lots of activities including making an owl out of a pine cone, paper plate owl masks and listen to wise tales at story time.

Owl Day dates at The Gardens Group

• Wednesday 19 February 2014 at Brimsmore Gardens, Yeovil, Somerset

• Thursday 20 February 2014 at Poundbury Gardens, Dorchester, Dorset

• Friday 21 February 2014 at Castle Gardens, Sherborne, Dorset

Mike Burks, managing director of The Gardens Group, explains: "Owls are fascinating birds, and because they are mostly nocturnal, they are rarely seen. Owl Day will be a great opportunity for us to get up close and personal with these beautiful birds and experts from The RSPB will be on hand to explain about the importance of owls to our countryside. They also know a massive amount about the daily lives of owls, how they feed, how they hunt and why they are almost silent in flight."
