Home bakers and preserve makers wow Lesley Waters

On Tuesday 14 March, Lesley Waters, TV chef and owner of Lesley Waters Cookery School in Halstock, judged 17 breads, 8 marmalades and 12 chutneys at Brimsmore Gardens’ Baking and Making Competition, held in The Apple Tree Restaurant. Part of the Yeovil-based garden centre’s 25th anniversary celebrations, this culinary competition raised £200 for Yeovil Community Arts Association (YCAA), a local charity run by volunteers who organise the international writing competition, the Yeovil Literary Prize.

 

Cath Collins, group food manager at The Gardens Group, explains; “The Baking and Making Competition was a fantastic event and the standard of home baking and preserve making was incredibly high, with wonderfully citrusy marmalades, innovative chutneys and beautifully presented breads in all shapes and sizes. The Apple Tree Restaurant was jam-packed with bakers, home cooks and spectators eagerly anticipating Lesley’s verdict and we are delighted to have helped raise awareness and funds for the YCAA, which does such valuable work in our community. We would like to say a huge thank you to Lesley Waters for taking the time to judge and help us make the event such a great success.”
