Teachers, parents and guardians are invited to join their local gardening clubs and horticultural societies at the next Flower Show Forum, an award-winning initiative launched by The Gardens Group in 2016 with the aim of helping the traditional flower show to survive and thrive. The third forum, which is free to attend and due to be held at Castle Gardens in Sherborne on Thursday 30 March, will look to initiate a new relationship between schools and their local gardening clubs with the announcement of a new free pot scheme for local schools.
Each gardening club and horticultural society will be given plant pots at the Forum, which they will be encouraged to take into their local pre, primary and secondary schools, along with an invitation for them to retrieve their free plant, compost and growing instructions from one of The Gardens Group’s three garden centres. The schools will then be welcome to enter what they grow into their local flower show this coming summer.
Mike Burks, managing director of The Gardens Group, explains; “One of the central aims of the Flower Show Forum is to help gardening clubs and schools connect and work together. We really hope that the pot scheme will get new conversations started, which will then lead to new relationships being built and budding gardeners being inspired to get involved. By engaging with the next generation, we want to ensure that the traditional flower show remains a firm fixture of the summer calendar in villages and towns for many years to come.”
