Celebrate South Somerset's Food Festival -

with a very Apple-y Weekend in Yeovil

Children and apple lovers of all ages are invited to come along to Brimsmore Garden Centre and The Apple Tree Farm Shop on Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th October to take part in a celebration of the Apple! There will be apple bobbing, demonstrations of apple pressing, an apple expert on hand and all kinds of apple-related food and drink to taste and buy.

There will also be a harvest festival service led by Rev. Keen of St James' Church, Preston Plucknett, to start the event off on Saturday morning at 10.00 am.

The special weekend is part of the South Somerset Food Festival which is being held at many different locations around South Somerset. The Apple Tree Farm Shop has organised lots of producers to come along to offer samples of delicious locally made apple cakes, preserves, sausages, juices and of course local ciders!

"Our restaurant will also be joining in the celebration with a menu bursting with apple flavours. Traditional apple pies, crumbles and cobblers, local pork cooked with Somerset cider, apple stuffings, apple cakes and even toffee apples," said Tony Rash, Director of Brimsmore Garden Centre.

Producers taking part in the event include: Orchard Old Spot, Burrow Hill Cider, Garden Gate Preserves, The Seed Co., Lyme Bay Wines, Dorset Blue Soup and Blue Vinny Cheese and Parker's Menu.

In the Garden Centre there will be an 'orchard' display of apple trees with fruit from each one - so there will be a chance to try the many different varieties and flavours.

There will also be a talk and question and answer session on Saturday 6th at 2pm by Chris Hunter, tutor and apple expert from Kingston Maurward College, followed by a talk on Sunday 7th at 2pm by Tim Edwards of Burrow Hill Cider.

The Apple-y Weekend will be held at The Apple Tree Farm Shop and Restaurant at Brimsmore Garden Centre, Tintinhull Road, Yeovil, telephone 01935 426596.
